Principal's welcome

Principal Heather Munroe-Blum

Welcome to McGill University.

I am enormously proud of our outstanding faculty, students, administrators, support staff and alumni as well as the important role our University plays in Quebec, Canada and the world beyond.

McGill is a world-renowned university because of the calibre of our graduates, the quality of our research and a hard earned reputation that draws the most internationally diverse student body in Canada. One of the great strengths of the educational experience offered by McGill is our research-informed teaching and learning. Our professors are committed to bringing research into the classroom, and they aim to bring students to research.

We sit perched on an urban mountainside, at the crossroads of two cultures, in a city of two languages within one of the world’s most internationalist countries, at a time when global vision and cultural adaptability are not just desirable traits but highly marketable assets.

McGill’s global vision is key to our mission; a mission that has drawn 800 new professors to us from around the world in the past eight years. It is a mission that imports the expertise and perspective of urban planning researchers from California to the problems of Quebecers and exports the compassion and commitment of graduate students from Manitoba to the plight of AIDS patients in Tanzania.

As it has for almost 200 years, McGill consistently transcends its reputation, its history, its people, its size and even its famously character-building winters thanks to the passion for knowledge and spirit of social engagement of its students, faculty, staff and graduates.

Whether you are here in person or visiting us through this site, I hope that you will enjoy your experience with us and thank you for your interest in McGill.
